Remedial Massage
Corrective remedial massage
When muscles and tendons become damaged or impaired, knotted, tense or immobile, Corrective Remedial Massage provides a healing treatment that treats the whole body and traces the discomfort as far back as possible to the original cause, healing both the cause of the disorder as well as the symptoms.
Alan uses several specialised, uniquely-developed techniques to locate and repair damage to muscles, tendons and joints. His own innovative Corrective Remedial Massage techniques have been developed using his extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology and clinic experience with thousands of clients. This kind of therapy supports and speeds up the body's own repair mechanisms by re-balancing the musculo-skeletal and musculo-neural system using scientific principals of anatomy and physiology (structure and function).
Key benefits of Remedial Massage include: the stimulation of blood supply to muscles and viscera so that toxins and metabolic waste can be removed; increased oxygenation to tired, injured muscles; the calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort; the breakdown of scar tissue, and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility. An improvement to the health of the cells, the repairing of tissues, and the easing of stiffness and tension can also be experienced through therapeutic relaxation.
SPORT INJURY THERAPY
Sport Massage therapy has grown to become an integral part of the new athletic regimen from after school athletics, to Olympic training. If your goals include getting fit and staying in top condition it will be an essential part of your journey.
Sports Massage is designed to condition the body for the demanding strain of sport and exercise. It will be quite vigorous and is meant to relieve and reduce the stress and tension that can build up within the body's soft tissues while exercising or training. Alan's unique techniques are designed to increase endurance and performance as well as minimise the chances of injury - and if there is an injury, to dramatically reduce the recovery time. Stretching and resetting muscle stretch receptors are incorporated into this massage modality.
Sport Injury Therapy is designed to target specific injuries sustained while exercising or playing sport. Sport Injury Therapy may be beneficial for those wanting to: fight muscle fatigue, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility, prevent overexertion & injuries, relieve pain, improve heart rate & blood pressure, and increase blood circulation and lymph flow.
Repetitive Strain Injuries are increasingly common in contemporary workplaces. Sometimes work or recreational activities require repetitive movement, heavy lifting or limits the body's full range of motion (being in one position for long periods) leads to over-worked muscles. Alan uses specific massage and stretching techniques to treat repetitive strain injuries including shin splints, tennis elbow, corked thighs, golfer's elbow, carpal tunnel and frozen shoulder/joints with great success!
TRIGGER POINT THERAPY
Trigger points, also known as myofascial trigger points, are areas of irritability in the soft tissue structure. These can be acute sources of pain or quite often go unnoticed until pressure is applied.
Trigger points normally manifest as small contraction knots in the muscles, which can limit movement and blood supply to the affected muscle. When aggravated, this may cause muscle spasm, pain, a dull ache, tingling, pins and needles, or hot and cold sensations - as well as leading to symptoms including nausea, ear ache, equilibrium disturbance, or blurred vision if the point of origin is in the neck or shoulders.
Alan's treatment combines his Corrective Remedial Massage with the application of direct pressure to the muscle at its trigger point to relieve contraction in 5 to 20 seconds. Alan has worked very hard to develop his own double trigger point method that has proven to be extremely effective. His extensive work has resulted in the discovery and treatment of over a dozen new muscular trigger points, and his extremely effective techniques work to have you back on your feet in no time.
PREGNANCY MASSAGE
The pressures and aches of pregnancy are eased with a gentle massage technique developed just for mums-to-be. Massage during pregnancy can be highly beneficial, encouraging blood flow and detoxification, and helping your body perform at its optimum level. The usual pains that develop as the baby grows such as backache, headache, muscle stiffness, fatigue and swelling in the feet and ankles can also be alleviated.
The deep relaxation that a pregnancy massage creates decreases stress and cortisol levels allowing for better regulation of stress hormones and their effects. It also gives you some well earned pampering and time to tune into your changing body. Regular massage throughout the pregnancy is also said to shorten labour time and the return to optimal fitness after birth.
Pregnancy massages are only available to women who are 3 to 8 1/2 months pregnant.
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Lymphatic Drainage Massage is a light touch technique focusing on gently and rhythmically moving lymph through the body and into the nodes, glands, and terminals. This stimulates the lymphatic vessels that carry substances vital to the defense of the body, and removes waste products.
It can work wonders on the nervous system by reducing sympathetic activity, allowing the stimulation ofthe immune system defenses and increasing the flow and volume of lymph fluid. You will often feel the immediate results for as long as a few weeks.
This treatment is suitable for: recovery from major surgery or illness (cold and flu) scars, stress, cellulite, stretch marks, detoxification, chronic fatigue, weight stress, arthritis, neurological disorders, general well being, pregnancy & pain.

Alan can also help you look at any lifestyle habits or environmental situations that may be affecting your headaches and migraines.
